WHAMLOG.DAT (c) 1995, Werner Funkenhauser
The information provided in WHAMLOG.DAT is edited from the
FCC's file AMDATA.DAT.GZ. That file is publicly available from the
FCC's server at FTP.FCC.GOV. WHAMLOG.DAT attempts to reduce this
massive data into a form easily useable by Mediumwave DXers.
The data contained in WHAMLOG.DAT is simple ASCII format and
can be easily manipulated in a wordprocessor. Use 12-15 cpi as the
font size, to produce neat output, one record per line when
printing.
Users have imported the file into spreadsheets and into
database programs also. Even simple DOS commands such as FIND and
TYPE may be used to filter some of the information into secondary
files. For example, the DOS command,
FIND " BR. " < WHAMLOG.DAT > BRAZIL.DAT,
will output all Brazilian records into the file BRAZIL.DAT.
WHAMLOG.DAT is made available free of charge and periodic
update will be made available, also free of charge. Although
free, if you decide to use it, please e-mail me and indicate your
full name in your message. That way I have an idea of who is using
the file.
I am currently working on a couple of executable files that
permit convenient searching and printing of this data. These will
be available as shareware at a nominal cost in the near future.
Letting me know you have a copy of WHAMLOG.DAT will permit me to
notify you of their availability.
Enjoy!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Please send e-mail advising me that you have a copy of WHAMLOG.DAT.
Please don't distribute in modified form.

E) Country * 34
A two-character field indicating which country the
station is located in. Following is a list of
2-character country abbreviations that are used.
These correspond to those used in Federal
Information Processing Standards (FIPS) Publication
10-3, February 9, 1984. However, the following list is
an abbreviated version of FIPS Pub 10-3, covering
only the abbreviations which we use. (NOTE: a period has
been added to this field by the author, in order that the
DOS FIND filter may be used to extract countries (CAnada
and not CAlifornia --- Werner Funkenhauser 08/15/1995).

F) Power * 38
The nominal power of the station, as defined in Section
73.14, in kilowatts. This is not necessarily the
effective effective radiated power, the transmitter
power, the antenna input power, etc. There is an
implied decimal point between characters 4 and 5.
Read it in FORTRAN with an F9.5 format. [Note a leading
zero has been stripped off and the implied decimal point
is now between characters 3 and 4. Read the examples as
50 watts (.050 Kilowatts) and 20000 watts (20 Kilowatts)
- Werner Funkenhauser, Aug 17, 1995]
G) Hours of Oper. * 45
The operating hours during which the parameters
in this record are used. Since the data base is an
engineering data base, the hours of operation are used
to tell which records are used in which studies. Thus,
for example, a DA1 limited time station will have hours
of operation of "U" because it is used in both daytime
and nighttime studies; it does not mean that the
station operates unlimited time. Distinguish this
from the complete schedule.
Possible values are:
U Unlimited. I.e., both day and night, or portions thereof.
N Nighttime.
D Daytime.
C Critical Hours.
R Canadian Restricted.
P Pre-sunrise.
Critical Hours is that time from Sunrise to two hours after
Sunrise, and from two hours before Sunset until Sunset,
local time. During that time, certain stations may be
operating with reduced facilities as a result of Section
73.187 of the commission's Rules.
Canadian Restricted hours are similar to Critical Hours,
except that the restriction results from the January
17, 1984, U.S.-Canadian AM Agreement. See Appendix 8 to
Annex 2. Canadian Restricted Hours are called "Critical
Hours" in the U.S.-Canadian Agreement, but in the data base,
we call them "Canadian Restricted Hours" to distinguish
them from the domestically defined critical hours in Section
73.187. Canadian Restricted Hours is that from Sunrise to
one and one-half hours after Sunrise, and from one and
one-half hours before Sunset until Sunset, local time.
U.S. stations operate with restricted hours because of
Canadian stations, and vice-versa.
H) Antenna Mode * 47
The mode of the complete antenna system. It indicates
whether directional or non-directional, number of
patterns, etc. For example: DA1, DA2, DAN, ND1, ND2.
I) Complete Schedule 51
The Complete Schedule for this station. Distinguish this
from Hours of Operation. Possible values are:
D Daytime only.
N Nighttime only.
U Unlimited time.
L Limited time.
H Specified Hours.
For example, a DA2 station has different patterns for
daytime and nighttime. Thus, there would be a daytime
logical record and a nighttime logical record. The hours
of operation would be "D" in the daytime record, and "N" in
the nighttime record, but the complete schedule would be
"U" in both records.
J) Latitude Dir * 53
The direction for the latitude. It is "N" for North
Latitude, and "S" for South Latitude.
Latitude Degrees *
The degrees portion of the latitude.
Latitude Minutes *
The minutes portion of the latitude.
Latitude Seconds *
The seconds portion of the latitude.
Longitude Dir *
The direction for the longitude. It is "W" for West
Longitude, and "E" for East Longitude.
Longitude Degrees *
The degrees portion of the longitude.
Longitude Minutes *
The minutes portion of the longitude.
Longitude Seconds *
The seconds portion of the longitude.
K) Change List Date * 74
The date of the change list in YYMMDD format.
